Why do so many people move into the city?

What's the story of Almere?

Almere is a city and municipality in the province of Flevoland, bordering Lelystad and Zeewolde. After World War II, there was a high need for houses in the rapidly growing population of Amsterdam, so it was decided to plan and build two brand new towns in the polders, Lelystad and Almere.  The first house in Almere was finished in 1976. The city is the 7th largest in the Netherlands with more than 216,000 citizens (2021) and is part of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (MRA).

In October 2007, the city council of Almere made agreements with the government to expand the city to 350,000 inhabitants by 2030. Based on the municipality's database, in the past years, Almere experiences an average growth of inhabitants of more than 3,200 every year, and the forecast for the upcoming years is that it'll rise to 3,600. This exponential growth that the city is having implies its booming housing market and the way it'll look soon (at least).

What are Almere's attraction points?

The city is proud to be home to an impressive selection of international corporations, like Yakult Group, Mitsubishi, Microsoft, Cisco Systems, and more. The proximity to Lelystad Airport draws many people to the area. Hence, international families may choose to send their children to one of the two fine international schools in the city.

2 interesting development projects in Almere that you have to know:

In the past few years, Almere is in high-speed progress and undergoes some fascinating improvements that boost the city to become trendy among home-seekers that look for more reasonable home prices.

We summed up for you the 3 most upcoming projects that will take the city to a whole new level:

1. Eemvallei Stad

The plan to build a new city with more than 50,000 homes in the province of Flevoland is about to embark. The town named Eemvallei Stad will be sustainable and climate-proof as a response to the current housing shortage. The city will be located on the eastern side of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, on the East side of Almere (see in the photo below).

In addition to some 50,000 new homes, the remaining ground will be used for urban agriculture and nature reserve. Eemvallei Stad will supply a total of approximately 90,000 households with energy generated from wind and the sun.

The time is not yet final, butEemvallei Stad can be built quickly as most of the land is already owned by the government and private individuals.
The grand urban expansion with the 2 other projects in Almere and Eemvallei will make the region an attractive destination for many individuals and families that want to buy an affordable house and still stay close to Amsterdam and the business centers.

2. Schiphol-Amstelveen-Almere road

Almere, with its continuous growth, became an important international and business center on the Dutch map. It was essential to provide more smooth and quick access between the city and Schiphol and fight the constant traffic jams on the busy highways by forming the A1/A6/A9/A10: Schiphol-Amsterdam-Almere project.

The project aims to improve the traffic flow of the accessibility of the northern Randstad and reduce traffic jams by expanding the highways A1, A6, A9, A10, with one or more lanes in both directions, widening the Dutch bridge and adding a bridge over the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal.

Expecting that the projects will boost Almere and Amstelveen drives home-buyers to buy a house in the cities and increase the region's value.

Good luck with your house hunting!
